Traditional cottage pie

This English classic dish uses a beef mince filling, cooked in a scrumptious beef gravy and then topped with cheesy creamy mashed potato and baked until golden. Serve simply with garden peas.

1.2kg beef mince
1 onion
1 clove garlic
1x400g tin chopped tomatoes
1 ltr Essential Cuisine No.1 Beef Gravy
6 large potatoes
100g butter
150ml milk
20g Essential Cuisine Cheese Stock Powder


Dice the onion and garlic and fry in a little oil.

Add the mince and cook until starting to brown.

Add the tinned tomatoes, Essential Cuisine No.1 Beef Gravy Mix (made to specification). Season, then simmer gently for about 45 mins, adding more water if required.

Peel the potatoes and boil until soft.

Mash the cooked potatoes together with the butter, milk and Essential Cuisine Cheese Stock Mix.

Season as required.

Pour the mince into an oven proof dish and cover with the potato.

Grate some cheese on top and bake on 160°c for about 20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
