This Christmas tree inspired churro is stunning and so easy to make with just a few simple ingredients.
Churros dough (makes 2 trees)
Ingredients50g melted butter 250g plain flour 1 tsp baking powder 300ml boiling water |
MethodSift together the flour and the baking powder. Boil the water and add the melted butter and green colouring. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients. Pour the liquid into the dry mixture and beat together until all incorporated and no lumps. Leave mixture to rest for 1 hour before placing into a piping bag with a star nozzle. |
Green sugar
IngredientsSosa kiwi green food colouring powder Tiny amount of water |
MethodIn a bowl, add some sugar and the tip of a knife’s worth of food colouring. Add a tiny amount of water to disperse the food colouring and colour the sugar. Allow the sugar to dry out before using. |
Assembly
MethodHeat the oil in a large pan. Pipe the churro dough into the hot oil in long lines. For the tree effect make the lines smaller as you come up so you can stack them up into a tree. Once golden and cooked, remove the churros from the hot oil and onto some blue paper to absorb some of the oil. Roll in the green sugar to coat and stack up into a tree shape. |
