A steak rubbed in cocoa powder with avocado and lime wrapped in a tortilla

Chocolate is usually associated with desserts and sweet treats, but this recipe shows how it can also compliment a savoury steak dish.

Prep time 6hrs | Cook time 5 minutes | Serves 2



500g Sirloin steak

Pinch of sea salt

30g Essential Cuisine Mexican spice rub

100g deZaan True Dark cocoa powder

Olive oil

2 soft tortillas



Mix the powders, salt and the oil together and rub onto the steak, then leave to marinate for 6 hours.

Grill the steak to your liking and carve into thin strips.

Serve on top of avocado smashed with lots of lime juice, in a warm tortilla.

Top with creme fraiche and tomato salsa.
