EUDR Regulation – Updates & information
Keeping you informed about the EU Deforestation Regulation
At HB Ingredients, we're committed to responsible sourcing and ensuring our products meet the latest regulatory requirements. As the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) approaches, we've been working closely with our suppliers to prepare for its implementation and support our customers through the changes.
What is EUDR?
The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) aims to reduce the EU's contribution to global deforestation by ensuring certain commodities and products are sourced responsibly and produced in accordance with relevant legislation.
The regulation covers seven key commodities: cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, soya and wood, along with certain products derived from them.
Businesses placing relevant products on the EU market, including Northern Ireland, or exporting them from the EU may need to demonstrate that their products meet the regulation's requirements.
How is HB Ingredients preparing?
For HB Ingredients, cocoa and cocoa-derived products are the only commodities within our range currently identified as relevant to EUDR.
We've been working closely with our suppliers to ensure they are prepared for the regulation and can provide the necessary supporting information.
We're pleased to confirm that all relevant products in our range are expected to meet EUDR requirements by the applicable implementation deadline.
What does EUDR mean for your business?
The impact of EUDR will depend on the products you trade and where they are sold.
If you trade within Great Britain
Businesses trading exclusively within Great Britain are not directly subject to EUDR requirements for those domestic transactions.
If you export to the EU or Northern Ireland
If your finished products fall within the scope of EUDR and are supplied to the EU or Northern Ireland, additional due diligence information or supporting documentation may be required.
If your customers export your products
Even if you only trade within Great Britain, customers who subsequently export relevant finished products to the EU or Northern Ireland may request additional information from you to support their own compliance obligations.
Which cocoa products are affected?
EUDR covers products classified under the following commodity codes, subject to the regulation's detailed product scope:
| Commodity code | Product category |
|---|---|
| 1801 | Cocoa beans, whole or broken, raw or roasted |
| 1802 | Cocoa shells, husks, skins and other cocoa waste |
| 1803 | Cocoa paste |
| 1804 | Cocoa butter, fat and oil |
| 1805 | Cocoa powder without added sugar or sweetening matter |
| 1806 | Chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa |
